Queen Mary Moth Open 2015 Analytics
Data to Value were proud to support the UK International Moth sailing class at their first event of the season. This proved to be a somewhat chilly and gusty affair over the weekend of 14th / 15th March at Queen Mary Sailing club in London. Despite the absence of many of the usual America’s cup rockstars the sharp end of the fleet proved to be just as competitive. Chris Rashley, fresh from a 4th overall at the recent Worlds in Australia, showed the fleet how to do it with a clean set of 1sts in all 7 races. Behind Chris, particularly amongst the top 5, many epic battles were had during racing with places frequently changing.
So what gave Chris the edge? Kit, raw talent, fitness, setup, tactics? Given we are a Data Consultancy we decided to apply some data analysis techniques to find out more. Using the data provided by GPS tracking partner TracTrac and Tableau Public we’ve been able to uncover a number of interesting trends. Why not see if you can spot what these are using the dashboard below?
